Do research in the beginning to determine the best keywords to rank for your site. Use tools like Google Keyword Tool or search in Google and you will see similar searches. You also may find gaps

Content is king – create consistent, fresh and high-quality content

Remember User Experience includes search engines (e.g. naming images with alt tags and file names, properly organizing with header tags and keywords, content should be easy to read)

Speed kills – website and also images on a website

Install an SSL – Security is big

High-quality backlinks – e.g. directories, guest blogs, PR

Internally linking is important – linking keyword phrases

Use a sitemap and submit it to Google – it helps Google crawl your website
