Chat #80 – 15 Best Practices for SEO

This is talk Number 13 in a series that will become the You are a media company course. This is the 2nd of the 4 that I will speak about the SEO and why it’s important. Last chat, the blog and why it’s important. This chat, I will focus on some best practices for SEO

Definition of a SEO: Search engine optimization (SEO) is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine result (according to MOZ)

Best Practices

  1. Title Tags is one of the most important parts of SEO. Meta Descriptions are still important
  2. Do research in the beginning to determine the best keywords to rank for your site. Use tools like Google Keyword Tool or search in Google and you will see similar searches. You also may find gaps
  3. Content is king – create consistent, fresh and high-quality content
  4. Remember User Experience includes search engines (e.g. naming images with alt tags and file names, properly organizing with header tags and keywords, content should be easy to read)
  5. Speed kills – website and also images on a website
  6. Install an SSL – Security is big
  7. High-quality backlinks – e.g. directories, guest blogs, PR
  8. Internally linking is important – linking keyword phrases
  9. Use a sitemap and submit it to Google – it helps Google crawl your website
  10. Limit the amount of 404 errors on your website and have a custom 404 page when you can
  11. URLs are important
  12. No duplicate content and check for www Resolve
  13. No paid links or ads – white hat SEO
  14. Social is important
  15. Blog, Blog, Blog
