Definition of a SEO: Search engine optimization (SEO) is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine result (according to MOZ).
Things to remember

Research is probably the most important thing to keep in mind (e.g. Google Trends, Google Keyword Tool)

Google doesn’t read your website like you and I do

The name of the game is to show up on the first page / really top 3

The long tail is real and that’s where a majority of the opportunities lie

There are hundreds of ranking factors (see below)
